William "Bill" James Bird

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of William (Bill) James Bird on June 16, 2026. After a brief illness, just days before his 79th birthday.

Bill was the beloved husband of 55 years to Gail Patricia Bird, a devoted father to Michelle Bird (John Bartolomeo), and a proud and loving grandfather to Gemma and Lily, who brought him endless joy. Becoming a grandfather was one of the greatest pleasures of his life, and he treasured every moment spent with his granddaughters.

Born on June 26, 1947, Bill was the son of the late James (Jim) Arthur Bird and Shirley Jean (Goodfellow) Bird. He was predeceased by his sibling's Dorianne Bird and Terry Bird. He is survived by his siblings Michael Bird (Rita Latulippe), Jerry Bird (Shellie Bird), Wendy Bird, and brother-in-law Rick Uyesugi.

Family was at the centre of Bill's life. He loved gathering with his extended family, including the many cousins he grew up alongside, his brothers-in-law Garth (Florence) and Garwin (Carol), and his nieces and nephews. He took genuine interest in the people around him and valued the connections he maintained throughout his life.

Bill was known for his quiet, steady presence and his sense of humour. He was endlessly curious about the world and loved learning new things. He enjoyed reading, history and sharing the countless facts and stories he had accumulated over the years. He had a special love for animals, a trait that dated back to his childhood growing up on a farm. He often spoke fondly of those early years, remembering adventures with his cousin's and siblings, and his beloved horse, Danny.

Some of Bill's happiest moments were the simple one's. He loved taking walks with Gail along the Humber River, often bringing food for the squirrels who would come running when they heard him approaching. He found joy in nature, in family, in learning, and in life's everyday routines.

Bill leaves behind a family who loved him dearly and who will miss his wisdom, kindness, gentle humour, and unwavering presence. His memory will live on in stories he shared, the lessons he taught, and the love he gave so freely.

He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

A celebration of life for close friends and family will be held at a later date.
