Walter (Wally) John Dushenko
October 24, 1955 – February 11, 2026
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Walter John Dushenko, who passed away on February 11, 2026, at Baycrest Hospital at the age of 70, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born on October 24, 1955, in Weston, Toronto, Wally was raised in the community he proudly called home. Wally worked at Kodak for 30 plus years, where he formed many lifelong friendships, before continuing his career at Campbell’s until his retirement in 2015.
Wally met the love of his life, Julie Evelyn Ann, on a cruise — a chance meeting that turned into a lifetime of love. They were married on May 11, 1985, and together built a loving family.
He was a devoted father to his three sons: David (Stephanie), Daniel, and his beloved son Andrew, who predeceased him. Wally was the cherished son of the late Stella and Walter Dushenko, and the brother of the late Brian (late Sandra) Dushenko and Lynne (Cleo) Ducharme. He was a proud uncle to Brian (Alex) Ducharme.
Wally was a quiet, hardworking, stubborn, and proud man with a sharp and unexpected sense of humor that those closest to him knew well. He showed his love through actions more than words — steady, dependable, and always present.
Some of his happiest years were spent at the family cottage on Sparrow Lake. The cottage was his place of peace, pride, and countless memories that will live on in the hearts of those who shared it with him. He loved puttering in the garage, playing horseshoes with his buddies, fishing, golfing, traveling, and watching hockey and football — especially alongside his son Daniel. He also had a well-known sweet tooth and never turned down dessert.
Wally will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Ward Funeral Home, 2035 Weston Road (north of Lawrence Avenue), Weston, on Saturday, February 28, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Heart & Stroke Foundation would be greatly appreciated.
