Vittoria Mazzuca

Vittoria (“Vicky”) Mazzuca passed away peacefully on March 1, 2024 with family at her side after a long illness. She is reunited with her daughter Lisa, her parents Francesca and Francesco, her brother, Tony and many loved ones who passed before her including many of her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

Vicky will never be forgotten by her husband Mario, her son Eugene, her daughter-in-law Cori, her grandchildren Luc and Dani, her sisters Mary, Susan and Angela, her sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Marcella, Rinuccia, Antonio, Annina, Mary, Agostino, Ida, and her many nieces, nephews, their children and her many cousins. She had a large extended family by birth and by marriage as well as many friends. She was well known and loved by all.

Vicky was a sought after and skilled hair stylist for most of her life. Her customers were very loyal and many became life-long cherished friends. Her success was tied to her ability to carry on a conversation with anyone about anything as well as having a keen sense of fashion and beauty.

Vicky made an impression on all who met her and were fortunate to know her. Her attention to the details of people’s lives earned her the reputation of being thoughtful, considerate and kind. She never missed acknowledging milestones such as birthdays, showers, births, weddings, illnesses, injuries, deaths no matter what personal adversity she was facing at the time. She had an incredible faith, strength and energy which she turned outward making people feel special and seen.

Vicky was very proud of her Italian heritage and sought to preserve it and pass it on. She often spoke of her beautiful hometown overlooking the Ionian Sea and the fruit grown by her parents. She was an avid gardener, loved music and was an accomplished home cook, preparing food in the traditional Italian way and exploring new recipes. She loved cooking with her children and grandchildren, most recently passing on the art of making pasta to her grandson Luc, who is eager to carry on the traditions.

Born Vittoria Frustaci in Calabria, Italy on August 18, 1942, Vicky immigrated to Canada with her family as a young girl. In the early 1960s, she met Mario in Toronto by chance through a mutual acquaintance. He soon became the love of her life and they married. Over the 60 plus years of trials, tribulations, and joys of their marriage, their love, faith and gratitude for each other only grew stronger.

Vicky’s family is eternally grateful to the incredible support and love from their extended family, especially during the last two months of her life. Whether it was homecooked meals, visits at the hospital, phone calls, messages of love, it was all deeply appreciated. Her humility often led Vicky to be surprised at the outpouring of support and love and she was reminded that people showed up for her because hers was a life well lived. One of her last acts was to thank those around her. She took nothing for granted, ever.

Vicky’s family is also very grateful to Dr. Zaretsky and her team at Credit Valley Hospital for their support through her lymphoma journey and to the wonderful, skilled and caring doctors and nurses who helped her during her extended stay at Etobicoke General Hospital.

Friends will be received at the Ward Funeral Home 'Weston Chapel', 2035 Weston Road, Toronto, on Thursday, March 7th from 2-4 and 6-9pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, March 8th at Transfiguration of Our Lord Catholic Church, 45 Ludstone Drive, Etobicoke. Entombment to follow at Glendale Memorial Gardens.
