Anyone who knew Vito would agree that he was one-of-a-kind. One of eight children, Vito was born in Modugno, an agricultural town in Bari, Italy. He worked as a Carabinier (member of the Italian National Police Force)in Southern Italy at the end of World War II. In 1956 he moved his young family to the Danforth area of Toronto. In Toronto, he worked at Oliveti and Underwood Typewriter Company, A.R. Clark Tannery and he ended his working days at Humber College.
Vito was a fiercely independent and generous man who valued his faith and his family. He never owned a car and cycled around the city well into his eighties. He was a wonderful cook with an incredible knowledge of wild edible plants. He loved and was loved by our family pets. While Vito cherished his Italian roots, he loved being a Canadian.
