Veta Agatha Smith affectionately known as Lena, passed away peacefully on June 18, 2026 surrounded by her family.
Veta was born on November 1, 1950 in Java Manchester, Jamaica to the late George and Edith Biggs. Veta was the 5th of 12 children. She married Clifton Smith in 1977, and together they raised 6 children and 9 grandchildren.
Veta worked at Seneca College for over 20 years were she helped professional from other countries get training to work in Canada. Veta retired from Seneca College in 2015.
Veta was a devoted church member of Grace Restoration International Ministries, were she served for over 30 years. She was a deconess and praise and worship leader. She loved the Lord and God’s people.
If you ever had the privilege of being welcomed into Veta’s kitchen, you already knew that she showed love through food. She would whip up a meal in no time. Veta loved her children and grandchildren. She would prepare “Soul Food’ Sunday meals every week for her family just to enjoy their presence.
Veta is survived by her husband, Clifton. Her 5 children; Kayon, Apriel, Torieon, Ebony and Troy. Her 9 grandchildren; Aija, Justin, Jaylin, Ashayla, Javon, Jaheim, Brielle, Jahleel and Ashauna. Her sister; Cheryl and her brothers; Godfrey, Birty, and Berrest and many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday July 11, 2026, at 11AM at Ebenezer Holiness Church of God. The burial will take place at Beechwood Cemetery.
