Vern passed away peacefully on Friday June 21st, 2013 in his 94th year with his family by his side. He was a long-care resident in the veterans unit of Parkwood Hospital in London, Ontario. He is survived by his wife Isabella (Isa) and on July 10th of this year they would have celebrated 70 years married. Survived by his children Roy (Lynn), Anne (Brian Soutar), John (Jackie) Bruce (Fern), his grandchildren Jennifer and Rob Soutar, David and Don Manser, Laurie Wozniak and Christine Manser, and five great-grandchildren, Jayden Manser, Grace and Hattie Manser, Joshua and Tyler Wozniak. Vern was the son of Garnet and Mary Harriet Manser (pre- deceased) of Cheltenham. His brothers Glen and Sid and sisters Florence Orr and Peggy Newhouse also pre-deceased him. Vern enlisted in the Lorne Scots and went to England in 1941. He embarked for Italy in 1943 with the Saskatoon Light Infantry. There he was transferred to the Lanark & Renfrew Scottish as a supply unit for the Seaforth Highlanders. He saw action at Monte Cassino and Ortona and he was wounded near the Mono River. He was a member of the War Amps of Canada and the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 15. On his return from the war he was employed at Avro Aircraft in the Shipping Department. On his retirement he worked as a Court Room Officer at the Peel County Court House. He was a Past President of Brampton Minor Lacrosse and active as a parent in hockey. He is a recipient of the Queen’s Golden Jubilee Medal. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Friends may visit at the Ward Funeral Home, 52 Main Street South, Brampton on Wednesday June 26th from 2 – 4 p.m. and 7 – 9 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 27th at 1 p.m. Interment Brampton Memorial Gardens.
