IN LOVING MEMORY OF

Vasilios

Dedebilis

March 17, 1935 – May 5, 2026

Obituary

Vasilios was a loving and devoted husband, father, uncle, brother, and grandfather. He was predeceased by his wife, Agathi, and daughter, Litsa. He was the father of Penny (Rudy) Jim(Susan) and grandfather to Sébastien, Jenessa, Anna, and Billie, who is named after him.

Vasili was a proud Greek who immigrated to Canada with his family in the early 1970s, like many before him. He worked as a galvanizer and foreman at the Metlen Steele Industry factory in Greece , where he was highly valued by his company and fellow workers.Which were some of his fondness memories.

Life in Canada wasn’t always easy, but Vasili, his wife, and their children committed to building a new life together. They preserved their Greek heritage while embracing the diversity of Canada.

Over the years they welcomed and supported nieces and nephews who came to Canada to study. They were welcomed into the Dedembilis clan with open arms. Some went on to marry , have children and assume life in Canada others returned to Greece and became the link to back home.

Vasili and Agathi were proud of their Greek heritage and instilled in their children the values and culture of their homeland. However, they also embraced the diversity of Canada, which welcomed their family.

Their daughter, Penny, met and married Rudy, who immigrated from Chile with his family. They met as teenagers and became an integral part of the family. Sebastian their son joined them soon after, and Vasili and Agathi joyfully took on the roles of yiayia and papou.

Not long after, Jim met Sue and her daughter Jenessa, who they welcomed into their lively Greek family without hesitation. Anna and Vasiliki their daughters followed in the next few years.

As is often the case in Greek stories, tragedy did not spare Vasilios’s life. His beautiful daughter Litsa departed this world suddenly in her 39th year . His beloved wife Agathi followed within the same year. He found solace in spending time with his children and grandchildren and keeping busy and involved in the Greek community.

His final years were spent at the Hellenic Home where he established new friendships and found peace in family, community and his Greek culture. He was an active member of the local church and his faith was an important part of his life.

Vasili’s fondest memories and of which he spoke of often throughout his life was about his beloved village Sofiko and his time spent in Korfos as a child and young man.

He loved to swim, he loved music, he loved to dance and he loved his family and they loved him. A life well lived.
