Obituary

In Loving Memory

Trudy Sharon Schuringa Uittenbosch was born on August 6, 1927, near the city of Groningen in the Netherlands, the second of five children.

She attended High School and Teachers College in the city of Groningen. After graduating at the age of 18 she taught in Zutphen, Gelderland for a year and a half.

In June 1948 her parents, Herman and Grace Schuringa, immigrated with their 5 children to Canada, where Trudy taught in Holland Marsh and in Edmonton. She attended Calvin College and graduated in 1953 with an AB in Education. After teaching in Hamilton for a year she immigrated to the US in 1954, and taught in Grand Rapids, MI.

In 1955 Trudy met and married Hans Uittenbosch, who was attending Calvin Seminary. The Lord blessed them with three wonderful children, Marcel, Selwyn and Desiree, who from an early age were involved in outreach for Christ.

From 1957 till 1965 they served two Christian Reformed congregations; first in Renfrew, ON, then in Kingston, ON.

In 1965 they moved to Montreal where they set up the Ministry to Seafarers for the Christian Reformed Church and established a beautiful Christian Seafarers Centre, which opened in 1985. Here Seafarers from around the world were brought into contact with their only Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ.

From 1976 till 1992 Trudy also taught in the Emmanuel Christian High School: languages, Bible and art.

From 1992 till 2016 Hans and Trudy were actively engaged in cruise ship ministry, sailing around the world and bringing the Good News and bibles to hundreds of Seafarers who worked on those splendid ships.

Trudy especially missed many celebrations and family get-togethers while at sea and later living far away from her children and grandchildren, but she will have all eternity to be in the Presence of her Savior and of her precious children and grandchildren, all of whom serve the Lord Jesus Christ.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations made to John and Grace Van Huizen of International Seafarers Ministry/Action International Ministries.
