Tommaso “Tommy” DeVuono
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing of Tommaso DeVuono, age 93, on March 7, 2026, in Mississauga. Tommaso was born November 4, 1932 in the town of Aprigliano, in the province of Cosenza in the Calabria region of Southern Italy.
Tommaso made the courageous decision in 1955 to immigrate to Canada, he embraced the unknown with determination and resilience and worked tirelessly to build a new life, always focused on providing for his family and creating opportunity for the next generation. Family and friends were the center of Tommaso’s world. He was a devoted husband to his wife, and childhood sweetheart, of almost 68 years, Iola. He was a dedicated father who was deeply proud of his daughters, Rackele and Maria who were the greatest joy of his life. Tommaso welcomed Dominic (Rackele) and Brad (Maria) not simply as sons-in-law, but as true sons, offering loyalty, guidance and a constant and dependable support.
Tommaso’s greatest joy was his grandson, David. He carried an immense pride for his grandson, the kind that lit up his whole face. Tommaso was thrilled to welcome into the family Stephanie (David) his granddaughter who provided the Quality Street chocolates he loved. In his later years, Tommaso was delighted in meeting his great-granddaughter, Daphne. Tommaso had a vast array of friends and he always made time for them; either to lend a hand, dig a trench, go tomato or fruit picking and he always seemed to know someone who could fix whatever was broke, he would say “I know a guy” or “I know somebody that can fix that”. If he wasn’t with friends or family, he would be in his vegetable garden or with a hammer and ruler in hand ready to build anything.
He will be profoundly missed by his family and friends and lovingly remembered in every shared story, his acts of kindness and every smile inspired by his memory. He will be forever cherished, loved and always remembered.
