In Memoriam of Vu Van Tinh

Mr. Tình passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side on Tuesday, August 8, 2023, at almost
the age of 92, although he would insist that it’s actually 93! He had been a devoted and beloved husband
of Khấn for 66 wonderful years, and a cherished and respected father and ông Nội/Ngọai. He will be
greatly missed by his son Quang Đình Vũ (Bích-Ngọc Christine Trịnh) and their children Emillie Thuỳ-Linh
Vũ and Hannah Thuỳ-Lan Vũ; daughter Kim-Anh Vũ (Đắc Hồ) and their children Peter Hồ (Vicky Lee and
soon-to-be born great granddaughter Renée Trường-Xuân Hồ) and Martin Hồ; daughter Minh-Trâm Vũ;
daughter Minh-Loan Vũ (Hào Văn Hồ) and their children Lan-Vy Vũ Hồ and Bảo-Việt Hồ; daughter Maria
Kim-Dung Vũ (Quốc-Cường Trần) and their children Thanh-Lam Trần and Hoàng-Giang Trần. Mr. Tình
will also be sadly missed by his extended family and friends in Canada, USA, and Vietnam.

In 1954 Mr. Tình and his wife Khấn had to leave North Vietnam with their families to find a better life in
South Vietnam where they met and married in 1957. With the challenges of resettlement, they had worked
hard to provide for their five children. In time, Mr. Tình became the president of a transportation company
in Saigon. With the end of the Vietnam War in 1975, the family again had to adjust to new challenges.
Together Mr. Tình and his wife supported four of their five children to escape and find a better life here in
Canada. The four children eventually settled in Toronto and sponsored Mr. Tình, his wife, and their
youngest daughter to reunite in the Greater Toronto Area.

Mr. Tình greatly enjoyed puttering around his large patch of vegetable garden, which has produced
various Vietnamese vegetables for family and friends. There are many Vietnamese herbs that he had
diligently planted that are used in all the family get-togethers in the summers. There are spicy hot peppers
which are appreciated by his son Quang and granddaughter Thuỳ-Linh. There are rau mùng-tơi, of which
bà Nội/Ngoại often made into yummy canh for the grandchildren. These will be part of the many fond
memories we will carry forever!

Mr. Tình was a man of exemplary character who had always embraced challenges, even well into his 90’s.
He continued to independently cut the grass in the summers and snow-blow the snow in the winters. He
walked around the neighbourhood everyday. He used to bike daily, only stopping during the recovery of
his stroke in 2015. He worked hard to fully recover from the 2015 stroke and recent illness, by practicing
his movements twice or even three times as requested by the physiotherapists, even during his last days
when bed bound. He had integrity and could be depended on by family and friends to trust him. He highly
valued his words and commitments, and always kept his promises and tried to finish what he had started.
His continued independence, integrity, determination, and perseverance are appreciated and modeled by
his children and grandchildren.

Our family would like to take this opportunity to express our deepest gratitude to the staff at the Cortellucci
Hospital and Hospice Vaughan for their amazing understanding, support, and services. We wish to
specifically thank Dr. Maida and the wonderful staff and volunteers at Hospice Vaughan for their excellent
care of our father and grandfather, and of us when we came visiting.

“Bố, ông Nội, ông Ngoại will be forever loved and always remembered.”

Family and friends will be received at the Ward Funeral Home, 4671 Hwy 7, Woodbridge (just west of Pine
Valley Drive) on Friday, August 11, 2023, from 6:00 PM - 9:00 PM. A funeral mass will be held on
Saturday, August 12, 2023 at 10:15 AM, at St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church, 161 Annette Street, Toronto.
Interment will follow at Assumption Cemetery, 6933 Tomken Rd., Mississauga. In lieu of flowers, as
expressions of sympathy, donations in memory of Mr. Tinh Van Vu, to Hospice Vaughan would be greatly
appreciated.
