Thomas Kenneth Johnston (Ken)  August 17, 1941-May 9, 2025 After a long struggle with dementia, we announce the passing of Ken on Friday, May 9, 2025Ken was born in Portadown, Northern  Ireland to the late Bill and Bonnie Johnston. Shortly after the war they moved back to their home in Bangor, Northern Ireland. Ken was loved and will be deeply missed by Shirley, his wife of 59 years, and his son Wayne (Margaret) and daughter Lori Selkirk (Colin). Treasured Grandpa of Brendan (Paige), Meagan, Jack and Kate. Ken will be fondly remembered by his brother Brian (May) and brothers-in-law Barry Livingston (Diane) and Alan Livingston (partner Sandy), as well as many nieces, nephews and close friends.Ken is predeceased by his parents, brother-in-law Grant Livingston and sister -in- law Jo ann Livingston. Ken and his family immigrated to Canada in 1953 to start a new life in Brampton where he lived for the next 70 years. Ken attended Central Public School, Brampton High School (where he met Shirley), Ryerson, York University and Teachers College. He began his teaching career in the fall of 1965 at Balmoral Senior Public School in Bramalea until he moved on to Turner Fenton Secondary School where he retired in June 1998. Ken was the past treasurer of French Bay Beach Association for over 30 years, a member of Probus and a longtime member of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church in Brampton.Ken was an avid reader, gardener, handyman, traveller, cook, enjoyed listening to music, and gave generously to many organizations. His favourite past time was spending time at his Sauble Beach cottage with family and friends, skidooing, sailing, cross country skiing, swimming, barbecuing, and playing backgammon. The family expresses their sincere appreciation to the staff at Extendicare Brampton for the kind and attentive care provided to Ken during the past 4 years.In "lieu" of flowers donations may be made to the Alzheimers Society or St. Andrews Presbyterian Church.Visitation will be held at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church 44 Church Street, Brampton on Thursday, May 15, 2025 from 10:00-11:00 a.m. The service will follow in the church at 11:00 a.m. Reception to follow in the Great Hall. Interment at Brampton cemetery following the reception. Extra Parking is available in the Central Public School.
