With profound sorrow, the family announces the passing of Theodosia Garoufalias, who departed this life peacefully on November 25, 2025, at the age of 89. Born in the sunlit village of Petrina, Greece, Theodosia carried with her to Canada the quiet tenacity and grace of her homeland.
Upon arriving in Canada, she worked as a seamstress, honing the meticulous craft that had long been woven into the women’s traditions of her village. After a decade in that trade, she devoted herself to raising her two sons, Kosta and Peter, embracing motherhood with the steady, unadorned love that became one of her defining traits. When she returned to the workforce, she did so with characteristic resolve, serving in janitorial services for twenty-five years.
For sixty years, Theodosia and her husband, Evangelos Garoufalias, were devoted to one another, a steadfast couple who journeyed side by side through seasons of hardship and harvest alike. Their marriage stood as a quiet, luminous testament to a generation that believed love was felt and lived through small, unassuming acts of care that bound their lives gently and inseparably together.
Theodosia found joy in the simple, sustaining rituals of the home. In her later years, she and Evangelos nurtured a flourishing flower and vegetable garden an earthly refuge that mirrored their shared life.
Her loyalty to her family was unwavering. She possessed a rare gentleness of counsel, offering comfort and guidance to friends and loved ones whenever they faced moments of difficulty. To many, she was the quiet pillar in their lives, steady, measured, and deeply compassionate.
Theodosia is survived by her sons, Kosta and Peter Garoufalias, and by her nephews Stavro and John Preketes in Canada. She leaves as well her sister-in-law Christina Garoufalias, and nephews Kosta and Spiro Garoufalias of Kato-Halandri, Athens, Greece. In her native Petrina, she is mourned by her brother George Preketes, her sister.
