Thelma May Leadbeater

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Thelma May Leadbeater (nee Porteous) on June 07, 2025 at St. Joseph’s Health Centre in Toronto, just weeks after celebrating her 99th birthday. 

Thelma was born in The Pas, Manitoba on May 14, 1926 and lived her life with, humour, resilience, independence and spirited determination. 

Thelma spent 59 wonderful years with her husband Lloyd, until his passing in 2004. They welcomed their first son Wayne in 1950 and Gregory (d2016) in 1955. 

 In 2009, she moved into Hearthstone by the Bay as one of its original residents where she quickly fostered community, connection and bringing people together. She was a fixture in the building and her natural warmth continued to touch the lives of all who lived there.

Thelma’s life was not only long in years but rich in stories of laughter, love, family, travel and triumph. Her strength and practical wisdom will continue to inspire all who knew her. She will be deeply missed by her son Wayne (Hildegard), grandchildren Matthew, Heather Brown and Jennifer Jarrett (Trevor) and great-granddaughter Beth Jarrett. 

The family extends our deepest gratitude to the Wellness Team, Hospitality Team and Management personnel at Hearthstone by the Bay for their exceptional kindness and support which allowed Thelma to maintain a life of dignity and social connection into her later years. As she said on numerous occasions “I have had a great life, I have no regrets” a beautiful celebratory note to have fulfilled her 99 years of life. 

The funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 19, 2025 at the Ward Funeral Home, 2035 Weston Road, Weston, Ontario. The family will receive friends starting at 12:00 pm followed by the service at 1:00 pm.  All are invited to the Weston Golf & Country Club for a reception following the service. A Celebration of Life will also be held on Friday, June 20 at Hearthstone by the Bay, 3 Marine Parade Drive, Etobicoke, Ontario starting at 10:00 am. Stories and remembrances welcomed.

 If so desired, and in lieu of flowers, a donation to the Salvation Army, Covenant House or a charity of your choice to honour Thelma’s memory would be greatly appreciated.
