Our mom, grandmother, great grandmother, Stien Vanschepen was born in Friesland, Netherlands March 19th 1935. She came to Canada in 1947 with her Mother and Father and 8 siblings when she was just 12 years old. She resided in Owen Sound ON for a number of years and became a nanny when she left school at 14 years of age. She met her husband Kees Jonker in Clarkson (now Mississauga) and that is where they married at Clarkson Christian Reformed Church. They moved several times and ended up in Oakville where she lived until she moved to Holland Christian homes in Brampton. She had three children one girl, Martha and two boys, John and Gary. She now has six grandchildren and four great grandchildren. At her home, and her apartment, she had beautiful gardens and plants which kept her busy. When the grandkids came she knitted many outfits. In Holland Christian homes, she volunteered for many years, and was a deaconess as well. She crocheted and knitted many outfits for the dolls. The kitchen was her domain as all knew. She liked to travel and was very social. She helped many people and never said no. She loved to play games like Rummy-o and shuffleboard and was very good at them. She was fond of peppermints we would find roles in every purse and every pocket she owned. Baking was not her Forte but all the kids loved Omas sugar cookies. She loved to decorate at Christmas and wrote many Christmas cards. As time moved forward she had some health issues but now she rests peacefully in God's house where she can meet with her beloved family.
