Sophia Wayda

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Sophia Wayda on December 5, 2025, at the age of 97. Sophie passed away peacefully in the compassionate care of the Ukrainian Care Centre.

Sophie is lovingly remembered by her many nieces and nephews across Ontario, Manitoba, and Saskatchewan. She was predeceased by her sisters Patricia, Catherine, and Anne, and her brothers John, Walter, Bill, and Andy. A devoted member of St. Demetrius Ukrainian Catholic Church and an active participant in the Women’s League, Sophie dedicated countless hours to her community. Her commitment, kindness, and generous spirit touched the lives of many.

Sophie was a very special aunt and grandmother to Larry, Gary, and Robin Sawchuk, and to their children Dane and Brooke, as well as her great-grandchildren. She will be cherished forever in the hearts of her family and friends. Sophia’s memory will live on through the love she shared, the traditions she kept, and the lives she touched.

A Celebration of Sophie's Life will be held at a later date.
