Sonia Karadjian

Sonia was, at her essence, an open-minded, determined, and deeply accomplished woman. She was a devoted mother who cared profoundly for her children and grandchildren, a loving and faithful wife, and the truest kind of friend, loyal, supportive, and always present. Known for her tenacity, Sonia never shied away from a challenge. Once she took on a task, she carried it out with purpose and excellence.

Strong-willed and compassionate, Sonia had a remarkable gift for connecting with people of all ages. Whether engaging with a child or an elder, she brought warmth, sincerity, and attentiveness to every interaction. Even during her most difficult days, she never voiced a complaint instead, she focused on comforting others. Her strength, resilience, and generous spirit were hallmarks of her character, and her natural inclination to help others left a lasting impact.

In 1965, Sonia immigrated to Halifax, Canada from Alexandria, Egypt with her sister Alice, her mother Sirvart, and her grandmother Marie, joining her brother Eddy who was already in Toronto. At just sixteen years old, Sonia set aside her own education to begin working and help support her family. Over the years, she held roles at a medical instrument company, an insurance firm, and eventually the Government of Ontario, from which she retired in 2007.

Beyond her professional life, Sonia was deeply engaged in charitable work. She gave her time and energy to organizations including the Armenian Holy Trinity Church of Toronto, the Armenian General Benevolent Union of Toronto, the Girl Guides of Canada, and several others, always finding ways to contribute to the community she loved.

In May 1971, Sonia married Eugene Karadjian. Together, they built a loving home and raised two sons, Jason and Jeff, who later married Taleen and Aleksandra. Sonia was blessed with four grandchildren Bella, Eva, Alexa, and Oscar each of whom she adored.

Sonia is lovingly remembered by her extended family: Alice, Noubar, Mike, and Mary Erganian; Lucy, Eddy, Vicken, and Rita Khounganian; and Louise, Hovig, Amanda, and Kristina Kazandjian.

Sonia’s life was guided by love, selflessness, and quiet strength. She leaves behind a legacy of resilience, compassion, and unwavering devotion that will be cherished always.
