Shirley Anne (Shan) Shaw -02 December 1935 – 02 August 2026
A proud graduate of Scarborough Teacher’s College Shan practiced her vocation as a teacher throughout her life, both professionally and in volunteer capacities. Most memorable for her was the time spent teaching in Nottingham, England as a new teacher, teaching English as a second language to newcomers to Canada and the many years she spent as an English teacher at the Toronto French School. A long-time member of St. John’s Weston she supported its ministry as a Sunday School teacher, Server and Eucharistic Assistant and participated in a wide variety of activities as a member of the ACW.
Shan was born in Guelph, Ontario then subsequently grew up in Yorkshire, England before emigrating to Canada with her young family at the age of 32. Shan passed away peacefully after a brief period of declining health. Daughter of Alfred and Alice Roughley. Shan was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend whose greatest joy and delight was her family and the many friendships she cultivated throughout her life. She will be deeply missed by her children Nigel(Janet), Francesca(Rick), Richard and Victoria(Iain); her cherished grandchildren Miriam(Elliott), Sarah(Kenta), Erin(Pascal), Heather(Nicholas), Andrew(Brad), Dylan(Samantha), Kirsten(Theron), Elizabeth and Catherine and great grandchildren Adrien, Aurora, Frances and Imogen all of whom had a special place in her heart and brought immeasurable happiness to her life.
Shan was a blessing to many and we were blessed to have her in our lives.
