Shirley Moss

Shirley Joyce Moss, 97, passed away peacefully on November 15, 2025 surrounded by her loving family after a brief time at Brampton Civic Hospital.

Born into the home of Wilbert and Pearl Brautigam in the thriving city of Kitchener, Ontario on Dec. 27, 1927, she was steeped in the spiritual values of The Lutheran Church and the work ethic of the times. Her Christian upbringing shaped her empathic and kind approach to others. Her charitable donations were varied – from local church needs to friends needing a boost, from hospital supports to disease research, from feeding the hungry to supporting children in disaster situations in Canada and around the globe. Shirley was always more than generous in her benevolent giving.

Shirley recently celebrated her 76th wedding anniversary to her husband, Jack (age 100). She is survived by Jack and children (spouses), 7 grandchildren and 15 greatgrandchildren.

Shirley was predeceased by her brother Gerald (Bud) Brautigam, of Kitchener.

Despite the numerous moves to follow Jack’s work relocations heading up the latest Dow chemical plastics project, Shirley and family maintained a strong connection to Southampton. The longtime Moss, Carter, Godwin, and Brautigam families’ seasonal destination has become a year-round home for many. Whether it was at the trailer park around a fire, at the beach to view the sunset, or on the First Ave. cottage deck, Shirley and Jack cherished their Southampton family time, especially being so proximate to Gerry’s Fries and Southampton Lutheran Church.

The family takes solace in knowing that she is now at peace, reunited with loved ones who have gone before her. Her legacy will live on through the values she instilled in us, and the love she gave, and many positive life examples she displayed.

Friends and family are invited to join us in a memorial service with reception to follow on November 21 at 3 PM at Ward Funeral Services, Brampton Ontario with visitation at 2 pm prior to the service. https://www.wardfuneralhomes.com/ For those who are unable to attend the service, a live-stream video link will be available on the Shirley Moss page of the Ward website. Interment will follow at the Southampton Cemetery on a yet-to-be-determined date.

The family wishes to thank all the Administrative, Nursing and PSW Staff at Greenway as well as the Community Care PSW staff, who so kindly supported Shirley in her recent years at Greenway. The same thank you goes out to Shirley’s GP, Dr. Grant DeGroot, who served so carefully and attentively attended to Shirley’s health needs over the years. She could not have done so well without all of the kind supports and care that she received. Finally, thanks to Dr. Ooman and Dr. Young and the nursing staff at Brampton Civic Hospital who delivered her excellent healthcare while in hospital recently.
