Shirley Yvonne Jones

Ms. Shirley Yvonne Jones, age 89, of Etobicoke, Ontario, passed away peacefully at the Humber River Hospital, in Toronto, Ontario, on Wednesday, June 18th, 2025, after protracted illnesses including cancer, Alzheimer’s and most lately, pneumonia.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, James and Olga Manderson-Jones, her brother Ronald Manderson-Jones and sister, Veta McMillan.

She was born to James and Olga Manderson-Jones in Kingston, Jamaica on March 24, 1936, the second of four children. In 1957, she came to Toronto to study at the Ontario College of Arts which she graduated from in 1961. She returned to Jamaica in 1973 where she taught art at Vauxhall Secondary School until she retired and permanently returned to Canada in 2005.

Shirley was devoted to her children and family. Even though she was plagued with illness for most of her adult life, she worked hard to support her children and ensure they had all the necessities and more in life. She loved to paint and draw, leaving a legacy of artwork that we will cherish for the rest of our lives. She was loved by all who met her, lived a life based on honesty and integrity. Shirley truly bought happiness to all who knew her. The void left by her passing can never be filled.

She is survived by her two daughters, Sherill and Suzanne, Son in Laws, Richard and Carrington, Sister Pam, Nieces and Nephews, Mahiri, Hope, Karen, Phillip and Andrew, their families, Grandsons/Granddaughter – Ramon, Jonathan, Joel, Jacob, Marijan, Great Grandsons/Grand Daughter – Jaden, Asoka, Shuphar, Yahusadak, Yashayahu. She also leaves many others whom she loved and who loved her dearly, Hoskyns, Eda, Hepsy, Loretta, Bryson, Marina, June & Justin, Ron & Myrtle, Desmond, Ellorine, Sam, Teddy, Akosua, Joy, Michael and many others.

Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 2nd, 2025, at Ward Funeral Home, with Pastor Allen Bowen officiating. Cremation to follow.

‍Visitation is from 12 noon to 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 2nd, 2025, prior to the funeral service at the funeral home.
