After a lengthy life of fulfillment and adventure, Sherman Edward Talbot, passed away suddenly, but peacefully in Brampton, on December 18, 2025, at the age of 92.
Sherman is now joyfully reunited with his beloved wife, Merinda (née Racicot) Talbot (known affectionately as Mindy), who predeceased him on March 6, 2015. He was also predeceased by his brothers John, Wayne and Ronald, as well as his sisters Evelyn and Joyce.
Born in Warden, Quebec, to the late Kenneth and Lois (nee Collins) Talbot, Sherman was one of ten children. He proudly considered himself a “ Quebecer Who Did Well!” and often remarked that his life was a great ride!
Sherman fondly recalled growing up on the family farm in Warden. He met and married Mindy in 1964, and in 1972 they moved to Brampton, where they lived most of their lives. A hardworking and devoted husband, Sherman ensured that he and Mindy built a comfortable life together. He began his career at the Brampton Jail and later worked at the Ontario Correctional Institute, where he formed many lifelong friendships.
In 1954, Sherman became a proud member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, later joining the Freemasons and earning his 32nd degree to become a Shriner. These affiliations held great meaning for him and reflected the tenets and values he embodied throughout his life; friendship, love, truth and brotherhood.
Sherman was an avid hunter and fisherman and greatly enjoyed playing cards and engaging in competitive game of pool.
Upon retirement in 1998, Sherman and Mindy enjoyed travelling extensively, often with his brother John and sister-in-law, Linda. They also enjoyed spending many of their winters in Florida. In 2010, while vacationing in Florida, Sherman suffered a debilitating stroke. Through determination, extensive physiotherapy and an unwaveringly positive outlook, he overcame many of the challenges of his condition.
In 2013, Sherman and Mindy moved to Alberta to be close to Mindy’s family. Following Mindy’s passing in 2015, Sherman returned to Brampton and later moved into a retirement home. His longtime friends Colin, Herb and Dave became his primary caregivers, ensuring that all of his needs were always met. They will miss him greatly.
Sherman continued to enjoy life, travelling with Colin, playing cards and developing new friendships, including a special bond with Vi Gelsinger.
Sherman is survived by four siblings and their families: Jean Thompson, Shirley Welch, Allan Talbot, Linda MacNeill, many nieces and nephews, and along with his dear friends with who stood by him and will miss him deeply.
Sherman was the proud author of his own biography. In his words, 65 years of perseverance made him a happy, contented man and as he famously said….”I did it my way!!”
