Sergio Cover

Sergio Cover, 81, of North York, ON, succumbed to lung cancer at Etobicoke General Hospital on July 28, 2018 surrounded by those who loved him most.

Sergio was born on December 9, 1936 in Pordenone, Italy and was preceded in death by his father, Ferruccio Cover and his mother, Elizabetta (Tondat) Cover. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Miren Nekane (Ormaechea) Cover, daughter Sylvia Cover-Scarpino and son in law Anthony Domenic Scarpino, daughters Carmen and Lisa Cover, his two beloved granddaughters, Olivia Rose Cover and Natalie Gaetana Miren Scarpino, his sisters Gioconda (Cover) Vendramini and Maria (Cover) Battistella, youngest brother Gianfranco Cover, and his brother and sisters in law and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service was held at Ward Funeral Home on Hwy. 7 in Woodbridge on Wednesday, August 1, 2018 and internment followed at Queen of Heaven Catholic Cemetery on Hwy. 27, also in Woodbridge. Sincere thanks to the staff of Ward Funeral Home for all the arrangements. Memorial donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society and Lung Cancer Canada.

Diagnosed with Stage 4 lung cancer in the fall of 2016, Sergio continued to take care of his ailing wife and household responsibilities to the end. He was a great father and provider who worked hard all his life to support his family. He worked for Marel Contractors for 40 years and was dedicated to his job, always helping family, neighbours and friends when asked to fix or repair something. He loved his garden, his cottage in Wasaga, his “vino”, “pastasciutta”, and his family. In life he was loved dearly and in death he will be remembered always.
