Saveria Puopolo (nee Rago)
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Saveria Puopolo (nee Rago) on Sunday February 4, 2024 in her 88th year. Beloved wife of Rocco Giuseppe for 66 wonderful years. Proud mother of John (Hiroko), Nick (Nancy) (predeceased Irene) and Rose (Phil) and cherished Nonna of Amanda, Thomas, Natalie and Mari. Predeceased by her brothers, Nicolo and Gennaro. Saveria will be sadly missed by her sisters in Italy, Sister Rosina and Sister Tecla. She will be fondly remembered by her many cousins and friends.
Saveria was born in San Nicola Baronia, Avellino, Italy to parents Rosina and Rocco Rago. In 1958 she travelled to Canada, arriving at Pier 21 in Halifax, then off to Toronto to meet her husband to be, Rocco. Together they worked hard to buy a house on Springmount Avenue and provide a good life for their family. Saveria was a strong, confident, feisty and fun loving person, as well as a shrewd business woman. She worked in retail prior to opening her own clothing store, Saveria Fashions.
Rocco and Saveria loved to travel, visiting Cuba and Dominican Republic many times with CHIN, and through the church trips, visited Italy, Portugal, France as well as the Holy Land. Saveria was a women devoted to her faith, often with rosary in hand, she would spend her quiet time in prayer. Saveria loved to cook, feeding her family with delicious meals of fresh pasta and filling the house with joyous celebrations and gatherings with family and friends. Saveria will be greatly missed.

Family and friends will be received at the Ward Funeral Home 4671 Hwy 7, Woodbridge on Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. A funeral mass will be held on Saturday February 10, 2024 at 9:30 a.m. at St. Peter’s Church 100 Bainbridge Ave., Woodbridge. Entombment to follow at Queen of Heaven Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the CAMH Foundation for Mental Health or the Alzheimer’s Society.
