It is with heavy heart to share that Sandra Lea Thompson passed away suddenly from post-surgery complications on Friday, March 17, 2023 in her 82nd year. Her loving family were by her side.
Sandra was born to loving parents, Clarence Larter and Marjorie Larter (nee Nunn). Sandra and her Brother, George, grew up on Florence Crescent in Toronto, near Jane Street and St. Clair Avenue. In early 1956, Sandra met Robert (Bob) Wilmur Thompson, and in November they married. They were together for 46 years. Sandra worked as an operator for Bell Canada before she had her first child. Later she joined Oakridge Villa Nursing home as the Activity Director. Bob was a Pressman for Southam Murray Printing and then later went into plant and warehouse management.

In June 1957, Sandra and Bob welcomed Robert (Bill) William Thompson to their family. In 1963, Michael George Thompson arrived. In the same year they purchased their first house on Davelayne Road, in Weston, Ontario, where they lived for over 40 years. This was where the family made many lifelong friends. In 1982, when her first Grandchild was born, Sandra left the workforce to lovingly take care of her 3 Grandchildren for the next 20+ years, whom she adored.

Sadly in 2002, Bob (affectionately known as Pop) passed away from Cancer. Within 5 years, Sandra relocated to Brampton where she moved in with Michael, and her Grandson, Adam.

Sandra is fondly remembered for her passion and kindness towards the less fortunate and her love for children. Kids gravitated to her. She was very loving and loyal to her family and friends. Being a Homemaker, Mother and Grandmother made her most happy. In the early days, she truly enjoyed getting together with her Davelayne friends having dinners, playing games/cards, or sitting on the front porch chatting and laughing for hours. Sandra’s biggest enjoyment was spending quality time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They were the true JOY in her life!

Throughout her life Sandra’s biggest comfort was her unwavering faith. Her strong belief and commitment to God carried her through with much love.

Sandra is preceded in death by her parents, and her husband, Robert. Sandra is survived by her 2 sons, Robert (Jackie) Thompson and Michael Thompson; her brother, George (Linda Young) Larter; 3 grandchildren, Tiffany (Corrie Hargrave) Thompson, Ashley (David) Jones, and Adam Thompson; 4 great-grandchildren, Jack Hargrave, Laura Hargrave, Patrick (Jake) Jones and Chelsea Jones.

At a later date, Sandra will be laid to rest during a private family burial at Union Cemetery in Grand Valley, Ontario.

Sandra’s family would like express their sincere thanks to the staff at William Osler Medical Centre in Brampton for their excellent care during Sandra’s last journey. The family requests in lieu of flowers donations, in Sandra’s name, be made to Canadian Cancer Society (supportcancer.ca).
This act of memorializing her life is greatly appreciated.
