Rosaria “Rosetta” Petraglia passed away peacefully on Monday January 29, 2024 at the age of 98. Devoted wife of the late Liberato. Proud mother of Giovanna, Antonietta (Antonio) and Tommaso (Graziella). Cherished Nonna of Corena, Ladeane (Sury), Thomas (Alana), Michael, Alessandra (Mark), Francesca and Luca. Loving Biz Nonna of Justice and Reign. Dear sister of Michele, Concetta, Nunzio, Carmela, Giuseppe and Antonietta. She will be sadly missed by her many family and friends. Rosaria has been reunited with the love of her life, Liberato.
She was born in Calabritto, Italy to parents Rosa and Tommaso Sassano. As a young girl, visiting her grandparents farm, she met a young sheppard boy. This boy enticed her to join him to see the small newborn piglets. Little did she know that this boy would one day become her husband.
As a married couple, they made the brave decision to move to Lourdes, France. After 5 years in France they once again picked up their lives and moved to Toronto. Together they worked hard to provide for their family.
At the age of 50, Rosetta received her freedom in the form of a drivers licence. She would enjoy the scenic drives to Manitoulin Island. Rosaria was a traveler, her journeys took her to places such as Bahamas, Dominican Republic and Argentina.
She found serenity in gardening and her faith. She loved having her family around her table enjoying her homemade lasagna. And no meal would be complete without a glass or two of homemade wine.
Each fall the family could be found in the garage doing up their tomatoes, wine and sausage for the long winter ahead.
Family gatherings at The Mandarin were always memorable.
“Forever loved, always remembered.”
Family and friends will be received at the Ward Funeral Home 4671 Hwy 7, Woodbridge (just west of Pine Valley Dr.) on Friday from 3-5 and 6-9 p.m. A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, February 3, 2024 at 9:30 a.m. at St. Peter’s Church 100 Bainbridge Ave., Woodbridge. Entombment to follow at Beechwood Cemetery. As expressions sympathy donations to the Canadian Lung Association would be appreciated.
