Rosa Gonçalves Vieira Duarte Borralho of Brampton, Ontario died peacefully on July 15, 2025 at the age of 93 with family by her side.
Rosa was born on January 3, 1932 in São Bernardo, Aveiro, Portugal to parents Manuel Fernandes Duarte and Julia Gonçalves Vieira, the second oldest of four children. She married her husband José Borralho in September 1954. In 1974, Rosa immigrated to Brampton, Ontario, Canada with her children and reunited with her husband there who was building a new life for their family.
Rosa was smart, strong, and loving. Always open to lending a helping hand but never shy about her opinions. She was devout in her faith, and could usually be heard in prayer as she went about her daily activities. Rosa was a self-taught and talented seamstress, able to both tailor clothing with precision and draft her own patterns for original pieces. She enjoyed travelling and visited many countries throughout her years. She appreciated experiencing different cultures and was always up for adventures such as parasailing in Acapulco, Mexico. She didn’t particularly enjoy cooking, but her family adored her “biscoitos”, her soup, and her “café com leite”. Rosa was a lifelong gardener, tending to her beautiful flowers and abundant vegetable garden. Summertime for the family means green beans for dinner – because there was never a shortage coming from her garden.
Rosa will be incredibly missed by her children Helena (the late Antonio) Da Silva, Dulce (John) Macedo, Eduardo Borralho, and Paulo (Ana Paula) Borralho. Her grandchildren, David (Sabrina) Macedo, Oscar (Diane) Da Silva, Eric (Tania) Da Silva, Andrea (Jonathan) Klein, and Nicia Borralho. She was also blessed with nine great grandchildren, Selena, Romeo, Leandro, Drea, Julian, Lily, Charlotte, Brandon, and Adam.
Rosa is preceded in death by her husband José, her daughter Madalena, her siblings, her parents, and her son-in-law Antonio.
Family and friends will be received at the Ward Funeral Home, 52 Main Street South, in Brampton, on Friday, July 25th, 2025 from 5:00 - 9:00 p.m.
An interment will take place at a later date in her home country of Portugal.
