One life lived, many lives touched.
Rod will be profoundly missed by his loving wife Leslie MacDonald and his dear daughter Mairi (Bryan Sturch); his cherished granddaughter Marlowe; his beloved sister Pat (Ron Hungerford); his sister-in-law Kim (Bill McKinlay) and his faithful dog Sophie.
He was a very special uncle to Melissa (Kevin Tyler) and Mary Hungerford, Jennifer McKinlay (Ray Dizon), Andrew McKinlay (Shannon) and his grand nieces and nephews Sloane, Elise, Zachary, Jonah and Callie.
Predeceased by his loving parents Joan and Wilfred Hampson and his brother Don.
Rod obtained his Business Degree at Western University and his CA designation in 1983
Rod was proud of his long association with The Boiler Inspection and Insurance Company of Canada (BI&I) where he made many lifelong friendships.
Rod joined BI&I in 1984 and was the Senior Vice President and CFO from 2001 to 2010. In 2002 he was elected a member of the BI&I Board of Directors. Concurrently, within the HSB group of companies from 2000-2010 he was Deputy Managing Director and CFO of HSB Engineering Insurance Limited, operating primarily from London, UK while continuing to maintain an office in Toronto, Canada. He was a Member of the Board of Directors of HSB EIL, HSB Australia PTY Ltd., HSB Haughton, and CEO of HSB EIL Hong Kong Branch.
In 2010-2017 Rod was appointed Senior Vice President and COO of Temple Insurance Company where he finished out his career.
Many happy summers were spent at cottages on Penn Lake and most recently Honey Harbour.
Boating and golfing were two of Rod’s favourite pastimes. He will be missed by his sporting buddies on the greens, and his special friends on the Bay.
Special thanks to Dr. Shridar and the staff at Princess Margaret Hospital; Dr. Haq and the staff and volunteers at The Dorothy Ley Hospice, especially the warm and caring nursing staff and for the kind and thoughtful guidance of Roberto Do Nascimento.
As per Rod’s wishes cremation has taken place.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
