VIENNEAU, Robert "Bob" Joseph, passed away peacefully in his sleep in the loving care of Peel Manor Long Term Care, Brampton Ontario. on Mother's Day May 10th, 2026, 2 days before his 97th Birthday. They settled in Campbellton, NB and raised their big family, largely at the foot of Vienneau Hill, in a home built by hand by Joseph, at the corner of Church St and Pond Rd.
Bob is the last surviving member of his family of 16 children: 8 Sisters & 7 Brothers: Myrtle (Alcide) Arseneault (b 1909), Stanley (Jean) (b 1910), Frances (Fran) (James) Goulet (b 1911), Hazel (Arnold) Warren (b 1913), Eileen (Ray) Di Benedetto (b 1914), William (Bill) (Jean) (b 1915), Armand (Sophia) (b 1917), Laurine (Joe) Wilsher (b 1918), Earl (Alberta "Bert") (b 1919), Marguerite (Marg) (James) St Onge (b 1920), George (Arleen) (b 1922), Kenneth (Ken) (Christine) (b 1924), Henrietta (Etta) (b 1926), Theresa (Tessie) (Guy) La Point (b 1927), Ralph (Rose) (b 1931).
In life, Bob was born Romeo Joseph Vienneau, (changed to Robert "Bob" circa 1947). This may have been the beginning of his ability to make people laugh as he felt no more like a Romeo than he felt like an extra-terrestrial being. Strawberry-haired, rutty-complected, and about 5'8" standing ramrod straight, he was what our mom described as "sooo cute"! He tested her honesty one day, kind of by accident, before they were, "in too deep", when he asked her, "Do you think I am handsome?". She hesitated knowing the answer to that question, then said with conviction, "No, but you are sooo cute!". In that answer, he had found an honest woman, and after trying to "escape" a few times because he was very young and after all, sooo cute, he could not resist HER charms and wiles. They were together for over 63 years, a wonderful union with every one of those years filled with joy, music, laughter, creativity, love, care, honour, support and fun. After nearly 8 years together, they had their first born, Robert Jr (Bobby), then Carol & finally, Mark, all within 5 years.
Our dad had a long list of "careers" in his early years from selling pots & pans in the early '50's, to selling cars, insurance, scholarships, and eventually he founded Dominion Therapy in 1976. Business was a great success and our parents worked together for the next 25 years, singing and laughing through work and play.
Bob was always on the cutting edge. He was first to purchase a dishwasher for our mom (she did not think she could ever use such a thing!). He was the first guy to own a personal computer in the subdivision, I am sure. He was an audiophile, and loved the ever-perfecting sound emanating from his exceptional speakers and taught us to appreciate sound and the difference...like a good wine, there WAS a difference with good speakers! He considered things. He observed things. He was very smart and had an incredible 6th sense, and it was impossible to pull anything over on him. He was off-the-cuff hilarious, creative, musical and generous with heart and wallet, and when we were home and the door was closed, he was the exact same man as he was when he was outside; loving, funny, a talker, a doer, busy at home living a very good life.
Our dad showed great appreciation for our mom, respect and love everyday and she honoured him as the wise sage and hilarious man that he was. He was a gifted writer, both music and lyrics, had an amazing voice and could harmonize to any sound made. His guitar was always within reach of the table, and he played songs and worked out his music, every day after breakfast, after lunch and after dinner as my mom cleaned the kitchen (with her beautiful dishwasher she didn't think she could possibly need). She sang with him, she was the best support and audience ever, as we 3 kids scrambled to be with friends. and we left them to sing until the street lights came on.
We would like to say a special and heartfelt thanks to Peel Manor Long Term Care, Brampton, as a resident there for almost 7 ½ years, our father had incredible compassionate care throughout! They thought the world of him, they enjoyed his humour, and of course loved that he always sang and even after he got into bed at night, they could hear him singing one beautiful piece or another. He often marvelled at how kind, patient and caring they were toward him, bringing him cookies and coffee to his sheer delight! Thank you, all, for loving my dad; he felt it! We felt it!
A huge thank you to all who contributed to our dad's well-being, and life, including one of his best friends Trevor (Carol), who gave so much time, great effort, spent so many of his weekends attending to our dad, sleepovers, 2 hours of public transit, and so much more, over the last 28 years. He appreciated and loved you!
Thank you to his daughter, Carol, who took care of his paper-life for 14 years, who attended to his personal needs and dedicated many, many fun overnight weekends enjoying time together at his condo downtown at Front and Jarvis, and visited very regularly at Peel Manor. He appreciated every visit, every offer of care and hope and loved when last there, decorating his room in anticipation of his 97th Birthday.
Thank you to his son Mark & daughter-in-law Sue, for your visits. He understood your need to move to Kelowna and although he would have chosen otherwise if he could have, he knew every person had their own life to live, as he did...and he respected your choices.
Thank you to his son Bobby for being there for him, and for leaving one of his guitars there for over 7 years, playing and singing music written by our dad...as well as other artists, and all kinds of music. All those times would have been many of dad's finest, most cherished hours of all, at Peel Manor.
And finally, a huge thank you to our wonderful Brenda Vienneau! An almost-daily steadfast companion, a friend, a carer, his shopper, cleaner, decorator, and even singing, which was way out on the limb for her, he was the luckiest guy alive for just Brenda alone, he once told me. Why, he wondered, would someone care so much? Because Dad, she has a heart as big as yours! Thank you, dear Brenda!
He will be remembered and cherished by all who knew and loved him.
