In Loving Memory of Robert Burns Murphy

May 28, 1948 – October 21, 2026

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Robert Burns Murphy, affectionately known to family and friends as Robert, Bob, or simply “Murph,” on October 21, 2026, at the age of 78.Born in Pictou, Nova Scotia, to Burns Murphy and Kathleen (Sim) Murphy, Robert spent his early childhood on Canada’s East Coast before moving with his family to Toronto at the age of four. Growing up in the Mount Dennis neighbourhood, Robert developed the friendships, experiences, and distinctive sense of humour that would remain with him throughout his life.Throughout his working years, Robert held various positions, including company delivery driver and building superintendent. His working life was just one part of a life filled with family, friendships, and memorable experiences.Robert was a man of wonderful humour and unforgettable character. Never one who needed to dominate a conversation, he was more often the listener, quietly taking everything in. Then, when least expected, he would offer a uniquely hilarious observation or perfectly timed remark that could leave everyone in stitches. His wit was distinctly his own, and those fortunate enough to know him will undoubtedly remember the laughter he brought into their lives. As a husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, Robert leaves behind a lifetime of shared experiences, conversations, laughter, and cherished memories. His presence in the lives of those who knew and loved him will be remembered with warmth and affection for generations to come.Robert is lovingly remembered by his wife, Marilyn, his five children, Terry, Jason, Michael, Kathleen, and Rosemarie, and his seven grandchildren. He is also fondly remembered by his former wife and longtime friend, Lynn Bradley Forbes, with whom he maintained a close bond throughout the years.Robert was predeceased by his infant son, Michael Bradley Murphy, his parents, Burns Murphy and Kathleen (Sim) Murphy, and his brother, George Murphy.Robert was well loved by all who knew him. His quiet nature, wonderfully unique sense of humour, and ability to bring laughter to even the most ordinary moments made him someone truly special. He had a way of leaving people with a smile and a story worth remembering.Though he will be deeply missed, the laughter he inspired, the friendships he made, and the love he shared with his family will remain a lasting part of his legacy.Rest peacefully, Dad. You gave us a lifetime of memories and more than a few good laughs.
