Balbinot, Rino
June 12th, 1932 – June 30th, 2015
Rino Balbinot born in northern Italy in the village of Nove-San Floriano in the Province of Trevisio passed away peacefully with his loving family at his side on June 30th, 2015 in Toronto, Ontario at the age of 83. He was the son of Antonio Balbinot and Emma Paier.
Predeceased by his loving wife Elena, Rino leaves behind his devoted children Claudio and Laura. Cherished and proud nonno of Cristina Bianchi, Alexander Balbinot, Amanda Bianchi and Monika Balbinot.
He will be dearly missed by his son-in-law Pietro Bianchi and daughter-in-law Gerlinde Balbinot along with his sister-in-law Gigetta and his nephew Tony and his nieces, Grazia, Annarita and Patricia.
After serving in his beloved Alpini unit (artillery unit specializing in mountain combat), Rino worked in various hydro electric projects in Switzerland, where he met his wife. Rino and his wife Elena, moved to Canada in 1962 where he joined the Boilermaker Union Local 128 and continued to work on hydro electric and other large scale projects throughout Ontario while raising his family.
After retirement, he spent his time between his quiet retreat at Wasaga Beach and his family in Toronto. He will always be remembered for his love for simple authentic Italian food, which included his favourite polenta and "conigilo" and his passion for homemade wine. His hobbies included wild mushroom picking, playing cards, gardening, pruning / fruit tree grafting, bowling and bocci.
Family and friends will be received at the Ward Funeral Home 4671 Hwy 7, Woodbridge (just west of Pine Valley Dr.) 905-851-9100 on Saturday July 4th from 2 – 4 pm and Sunday July 5th from 2 - 4 pm and 7 - 9 pm. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday, July 6th, 2015 at 9:30 am at St. Clare of Assisi Church 150 St. Francis Ave., Woodbridge.
