Renato Antonio Dal Ben

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Renato Antonio Dal Ben on July 24, 2026.

Renato came to rest at Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto, in his 88th year, surrounded by his devoted wife and loving family.

He is survived by his wife of almost 60 years, Vincenza (née Antonacci), his daughter, Daniela (Derek), his son David (Suzanne), and his beloved granddaughters Natasha (Kyle) and Elizabeth (Randy). He is also survived by his one remaining brother, Bruno, in his 98th year, in Ponte di Piave, Treviso.

He was predeceased by his parents, Luigi and Maria, and his eight brothers and sisters.

Renato was born in Ormele in the province of Treviso, Italy on July 10, 1938. A relentlessly hard worker who came to Canada from Italy in 1958 and built a beautiful future for his wife and children.

Renato was a highly social man who was proud of his family and what he was able to achieve through his dedication to family and hard work. He loved to take on big challenges and solve problems. No project was too big or too small for him. He was always the first man to offer help, advice, and support. He showed up early and left late on every task.

Renato was a strong and healthy man for many years; even into his early 80s, Renato could outwork most 35-year-old men. He rarely complained and was only rarely affected by colds or health problems.

Unfortunately, four years ago Renato was diagnosed with a rare form of lymphoma that progressively caused him to be set on a course of arduous health problems that would slowly and eventually catch up with him.

As Renato took this journey, like many of the challenges he faced in his long life, he faced it head-on with optimism, humor and unwavering strength. He was able to endure more than the average man, and because of his willingness to keep optimistic and focus on the positive, Renato far surpassed his forecasted life expectancy by nearly three years. He fought hard to the very end and gave it all he had with the honour and the dignity he had always strived for in life.

Renato loved life and living it with the loved ones who surrounded him. He is already deeply missed and will never be forgotten.

He is now finally resting in peace.
