Pina Gidaro

July 13, 1948 — February 12, 2024

Pina (Giuseppina) Gidaro (née Laviola) – July 13, 1948 – February 12, 2024

It is with the heaviest of hearts that we inform you of the passing of our amazing, beautiful, beloved mother and nonna, Pina Gidaro. She was the daughter of both Marcello Laviola (deceased) and Maria Laviola, wife to Alfredo (“Alfie”) Gidaro (deceased), mother of Rosemarie (Wayne Hines), Burt (Raya) and Marcello (Nicole Sawyer) and Nonna to Alyssa, Alfredo Jacob (AJ), Jonah, Noah and Eric, sister to Anthony Laviola and Joanne Marzilli (née Laviola),  sister-in-law to Lucy, Mary, Linda, Roy, and George (who tended to Pina every day at MacKenzie Health and presided over the commendation and prayers for her) and is mourned by extended family and friends everywhere.  In addition to her parents and husband, she joins her in-laws, Umberto, Rosina and Marsh in heaven.  Born in Pisticci MT, Italy in 1948, Pina emigrated as a toddler with her parents to Toronto in 1950.  Pina was very proud of her service as a school trustee for the York Region Catholic Separate School Board, made lifelong friends of many other trustees, and was instrumental in advocating for the approval and construction of St. Patrick Catholic Elementary School in Schomberg, Ontario.   She was loving, passionate and generous to a fault. Most of all, she was a source of joy, hilarity, and fun for her family, friends and anyone whose life that she touched. She adored her children and grandchildren and was completely adored by them in return. Pina loved a good verbal joust and may have busted a ball or two in her time.  Gone far too soon – we love you always, Nonna, and part of us is forever broken without you!

Friends and family may choose to donate to Covenant House or Sick Kids Hospital.  The family wishes to thank the incredible nurses and doctors at Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital in Maple and MacKenzie Health Hospital in Richmond Hill for all of their efforts and kindness in our most difficult time.
