Petrona Cameron

Petrona Nicola Cameron passed away peacefully on February 18th, 2024, succumbing to the effects of a rare acute myeloid leukemia.
Born November 2nd, 1973, she leaves her loving parents, mother Beverley Brown and father Festus Palmer; her sisters Carrol, Jacqueline, Tamara, Tricia, and brother Arnold; her beloved daughters Carlene and Rebekah, and her precious grandchildren Makeda and Romeo.
She will be missed by her many nieces and nephews, cousins, and aunts and uncles.

Petrona came to Canada in 1989 and attended high school at West Toronto Collegiate Institute.  After graduating high school, she attended McMaster University on scholarship, and later, Ryerson University (now TMU).
She was a longstanding member of Pentecostal Tabernacle (Regent Park), worshiping with family under the guidance of Pastor Gaynor, Sister Gaynor, and Pastor Brown.

Living in Regent Park, Petrona was a mainstay of the original Pathways to Education Program of the Regent Park Community Health Centre from 2002 supporting the program in countless ways before moving to Pathways to Education Canada to help nurture Pathways in over thirty communities across Canada from Nova Scotia to Vancouver, working as Manager of Evaluation and Reporting until her diagnosis in May 2023.
Her love for her family, her dedication to education, her support and generosity to family, friends and colleagues will be hard to replace. She will always have a special place in our hearts.

Our thanks to many of the staff at Princess Margaret and Toronto General Hospital who supported Petrona through challenging times.

Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to Princess Margaret Foundation, Stepstones for Youth, and Pathways to Education (Regent Park).
