PATRICIA SHIZUE YONEYAMA (nee Adachi)

January 24, 1925 - April 30, 2025

A life well and fully lived. Pat passed away in her 100th year on April 30, at Scarlett Heights Retirement Residence, the place she called home for 12 1/2 years. Predeceased by Harold (Yutaka), her beloved husband of 68 years, her parents Tsuneichi and Ayako Adachi and younger sister Jean. She is survived by her younger brother Bob (Kathy), her daughters Linda (Rich), Norma (Pete), and grandchildren Matthew, Lauren (Chris), Marcus and Andrew. Pat was born in Port Alice B.C. in 1925. She spent the ages of 4 to 12 in the care of relatives in Japan. During WWII the family was evacuated to the Tashme internment camp in B.C. where she worked in the hospital as a nurse’s aide. After the war the family moved to Toronto where Pat worked as a dressmaker in the Spadina garment district where she became an accomplished seamstress. After marrying Harold in 1952, Pat dedicated herself to looking after her family. Pat pursued many interests including knitting, sewing, bridge, painting and Japanese flower arranging. She was an excellent baker and took great pride and joy sharing, donating and giving away her baked goods. She belonged to Weston Golf and Country Club with Harold, where they golfed, curled and made many lifelong friends. The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to all who have cared for mom over the years. A special thanks to the staff at Scarlett Heights Retirement Residence. Your kindness, compassion and patience especially during this last month were so very much appreciated. Harold has been patiently waiting in Heaven for his beloved Patricia. It is comforting to know that they are now reunited.

As we were unable to have a Celebration of Life for Harold due to Covid, we will be celebrating both their lives on Saturday May 10, 2025 from 11am to 1pm at Ward Funeral Home in Weston.

In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Alzheimer’s Society of Toronto or the Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre may be made in honour of Pat’s life.
