In Loving Memory of Pieternella van Ravens
September 19, 1935 – February 23, 2026
With deep sadness and grateful hearts for a life so beautifully lived, we announce the passing of Pieternella “Nell” van Ravens who went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on February 23, 2026, at the age of 90.
Born in The City of Delft (Schiedam), The Netherlands, Nell immigrated to Canada in 1955, carrying with her a strong faith, a generous spirit, and a deep love for family. She created many of her most treasured memories in her beloved home in Terra Cotta before retiring to Holland Christian Homes Brampton Ontario.
Nell was predeceased by her beloved husband Teunis “Dennis” van Ravens with whom they shared a life filled with faith, music, hospitality and family. She especially loved listening to Dennis playing the organ, as his music filled their home, their churches and the hearts of many.
She was a loving and dedicated mother to Bill (Liz), Art (Darlene), Ed (Maureen), and Ron (Hope), and to her late son Robert, who passed on March 9, 2022. She was a proud and devoted grandmother to the late Holly(Adam) van Ravens Creighton, Jeff (Bethany) van Ravens, Kaitlin( Omar) Butt, Craig van Ravens, Chris(Hilary) van Ravens, Josh(Claudia) van Ravens, Jessica van Ravens, Angela(Wade) van Ravens, the late Sarah Zachary van Ravens, Emily van Ravens, Michael(Sara) Boyle and Jason(Nikki) Boyle. Nell was also a cherished great-grandmother to 15 great-grandchildren each of whom brought her immense joy.
Nell had a remarkable gift for making everyone feel seen, heard and deeply valued. When she gave you her attention, you felt like the most important person in the room. She loved deeply, especially the less fortunate and the vulnerable and had a special way of bringing out the very best in those she met. Her wit and memorable one-liners could brighten any room and bring a smile when it was needed most.
Many happy moments were spent boating on Georgian Bay, traveling and camping in her RV and even helping neighbours rescue frozen computers. But above all, gathering her children and grandchildren close. Nothing brought her more happiness than being surrounded by her family.
A faithful Christian, Nell lived her life firmly anchored in Christ. Her favorite Psalm, Psalm 91 “Those who live in the shelter of the Most High, will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty” brought her great comfort through life’s storms. Her family finds peace in knowing that she is safe in the arms of Jesus and now rests in eternal glory.
Visitation will be held on March 3, 2026 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Ward Funeral Home, 52 Main St. Brampton Ont. and a Celebration of Life service will be held on March 4, 2026, starting at 10:30 a.m. at Cross Point Christian Reform Church, 444 Steeles Ave W. Brampton Ont. The interment and a reception will take place following the Celebration of Life Service.
Her legacy of faith, love, kindness, and laughter will live on in all who were blessed to know her.
