Mile Karakas

Karakas, Mile (Mike) – It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden and unexpected passing of our dear husband, father and grandfather on Tuesday, February 16, 2016, in his 83rd year at the Humber River Hospital. Beloved husband of Nedelka and proud father of Frank (Tonka), Annie (Stan), and Marko (Arwa). Cherished Dida of Danielle, Elena and Natalie, Joseph and Analisa, Michael and Matthew. He will be missed by sisters Marija, Ruza Pesut, Katica Drazenovic and in-laws Mira Karakas, Rade, Vinko, Marko and Dure Obad and Anica Kolovrat and their families. Mile was born in Brinje, Croatia and through difficult circumstances was able to immigrate to Canada in 1957 to build a better life for himself and his family. He was deeply proud of his Croatian roots and ever so grateful to be a Canadian and for what this country provided him. Mile’s family was his pride and joy and his life revolved around them. Nothing made him happier than when the family was gathered together. He was a greatly respected gentleman and will be deeply missed by his extended family and many dear friends. Friends will be received at the Ward Funeral Home, 2035 Weston Road (north of Lawrence Ave. W) Weston on Friday, February 19 from 2 to 4pm and 6 to 9 pm. Funeral mass will be held at Our Lady Queen of Croatia Church, 7 Croatia Street, Toronto on Saturday, February 20 at 9 am. Interment Assumption Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or Our Lady Queen of Croatia Church.
