It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Mavis Joan Cox.
Born in Toronto on March 31, 1950, to the late Dorothy Mavis Cox and James Cox, Mavis is survived by her sister Deborah (Debbie) Tam, brother-in-law Thomas Tam, and her cherished nieces Megan and Caitlin Tam. She was also deeply loved by her aunts, uncles, and many cousins, with whom she shared a close bond.
Mavis spent much of her life only a few blocks from where her parents were born and raised. She attended York Memorial Collegiate, where she was well liked by both teachers and classmates, and she often recalled those years with great fondness. She later built a long career with CIBC, where she formed many lasting friendships.
Passionate about politics, Mavis was a lifelong supporter of the NDP, first campaigning for David Lewis in York in the 1960s. She remained active in her local riding association throughout her life, supporting countless candidates and causes close to her heart.
Mavis will be remembered as a kind, caring, and generous person whose warmth touched everyone who knew her. She will be deeply missed.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to Chiara Padovani for the love and care she gave Mavis in her final weeks, to Shannon, her social worker, for her unwavering support, and to Enzak, who coordinated the care she received.
In lieu of flowers you may wish to donate to a charity of your choice.
