Maria Stella Apa (nee Romeo)
April 1, 1924 – November 22, 2021
It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of our mother, Maria Stella Apa (nee Romeo). Mom passed away peacefully at home, with her family by her side.
She is survived by her 3 sons, Vito (Joanne), Anthony (Susan) and Frank (Palma), daughter-in-law Cathy, 5 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, brothers Domenic (Doreen) Romeo, Joseph Romeo, and many nieces and nephews. Mary is predeceased by her husband Frank (2013) and parents Francesco (1957) and Teresina Chianese (1995).
Mom was born in Sant’llario, Calabria, Italy and immigrated to Canada in 1935 with her mother and brother Domenic. In 1944 she married her husband Frank and began raising a family. She spent her working career as a court interpreter, assisting Italian speaking Canadians.
A special thanks to Bettina Tavone, Maria and Frank Aversa for all their kindness throughout the years. Also, a special “thank-you” to all the caregivers who have been by our mother’s side.
Friends will be received at the Ward Funeral Home, 2035 Weston Road (North of Lawrence Ave. W.) Weston, on Thursday from 2 – 8 p.m. To safely manage and adhere to current social distancing requirements, please RSVP for the visitation. Wearing of masks or face coverings by everyone remains mandatory as per provincial regulations.
Due to Covid restrictions, a private Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Gregory’s Church on Friday at 12 noon.
Interment to follow at Mount Hope Cemetery.
Family flowers only.
Donations to either Diabetes Canada or the Alzheimer’s Society would be appreciated.
