Mario Panin

 Mario Panin is survived by his wife Josie of 47 years, son Robert and grandson Adrian.

Prior to immigrating to Canada in 1963, Mario served in the Italian Army as an Alpino, stationed in Pontebba, Carnia.  He was very proud to be an Alpino and cherished the many memories of this time in his life.  He returned in 2019 to visit Pontebba, which evoked much pride and emotion.

Soon after his arrival in Canada he began his career as a plumber with Local Union 46, of which he recently celebrated 55 years of membership.

His passion for canaries, finches and birds of all kinds, were a source of great pleasure and pastime. Nature and the outdoors were a big part of his life.  As were hunting and fishing in his earlier years.

Trips to Cuba were always a pleasure for Mario.  Especially the beaches and nature walks.  Visits back home to Italy nurtured and renewed family ties and friendships.  Mario also enjoyed going for walks in the neighborhood greenspace with his dog, Aiden.

But nothing gave him greater joy than his love and passion for his precious grandson Adrian, whom he adored.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Canadian Wildlife Federation of which Mario was a dedicated lifetime member.

Friends will be received at the Ward Funeral Home, 2035 Weston Road, Weston, on Sunday from 2-4 & 6 – 9 p.m.  A Funeral Mass will take place on Monday at 10:45 a.m. from Transfiguration of our Lord Catholic Church, 45 Ludstone Drive, Etobicoke, followed by a private cremation.

Mario’s cremated remains will be accompanied by his family to Italy and laid to rest in the Panin family crypt in Latisanotta, Udine, Italy at a later date.
