On the 2nd of October, at 7:45pm, Maria Vacilotto, Loving Mother of Son, Steven, Daughter, Marlene Molinaro (Otello), Nonna to Marc Molinaro, and Sister to Brother Adolfo (Palmina), passed away after a brief stay at Hennick Humber Hospital.
Maria was our Angel on Earth. A selfless and exceptional Human Being in every sense. She loved people unconditionally. Her greatest joy was to serve others. Preparing and serving endless meals, being with family and friends on special occasions, these were the moments that she cherished most. She had very strong convictions for our Heavenly Mother Mary, and an unshakable faith in our Lord Jesus Christ. She prayed daily. Read the bible regularly, and took special interest in understanding and marvelling at the lives of saints. A topic in which she was well versed.
Maria was an Italian Immigrant whose story in Canada began in 1951 when her ship, The Italia, docked at pier 21 in Halifax. A woman of class and elegance, she prided herself on looking and dressing in the best way possible, no matter the occasion. She radiated a healthy glow that was no way near reflective of her actual age. A life of hardships and sacrifice cleared the way for what she most recently stated was the happiest times of her life, which brought so much joy for me to hear.
“If the Lord takes me tomorrow I’m at peace with that, I’m ready”, she used to say. This statement was dreadful for me to hear. “Mom, don’t say that” I’d say, selfishly, I could never see my life without her in it. Her biggest fear was that she would through old age and frailty, no longer be able to serve others, and become a burden.
As fate would have it, the Good Lord heard her call and granted her wish, and she left this Earthly Plane albeit, at 91, and 91 blessed years - nevertheless, as far as her family is concerned, still too soon.
We love you Mom, Now, and forever…
Steven, Marlene (Otello), Marc
