Maria Minicucci (nee Ciarallo)

January 13, 1931 – November 18, 2023

It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our dearest matriarch Maria, surrounded by her loving family at home in here 92nd year on November 18, 2023. Born in Sant’Angelo, Molise, Italy on January 13, 1931 to parents Pietroantonio and Onorata Ciarallo. Maria is now reunited with the love of her life Giovanni, as well as siblings Francesco and Ida (Gabriele).

Maria is survived by her beloved children Sister Christine, Antonio (Renate), and Carmen (Maria). She was a devoted grandmother to John (Ana), Giacomo (Kristina), Cristina, and Veronica (Johnny). Doting great grandmother to Olivia, Damiano, and Gianluca. She will be dearly missed by her brother Antonio and sister-in-law Maria.

Maria and Giovanni married in April of 1953, and moved their family to Toronto when she was 36 in search of a new life. She brought with her a rich cultural heritage, cherishing the traditions passed down through generations and ensured to continue them in Canada. Through sharing stories of her home and cooking traditional Italian dishes with love, Maria ensured that her heritage remained alive within her family.

Maria found immense joy in gardening and would spend time in her vegetable garden whenever she could. She also was very involved within her community, and especially the community within St. Jude’s Parish, one of her favourite pastimes being singing in the church choir.

Maria devoted her entire life to her family, who were her greatest love and passion. She possessed an easy-going nature and was always willing to lend a helping hand. Maria had a fighting spirit that never wavered, facing challenges head-on and never giving up. Her determination uplifted those around her. She consistently encouraged and supported her family through both joyful and challenging times.

Maria’s life was a testament to resilience, hard work, and love. Her legacy will endure through the cherished memories she leaves behind. She will be deeply missed by all those whose lives she touched.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Maria’s name to the Alzheimer’s Society, Canadian Cancer Society or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

Family and friends will be received at the Ward Funeral Home (4671 Highway 7, Woodbridge) on Wednesday, November 22, 2023 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, November 23, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Jude's Parish (3265 Weston Rd, North York).
