It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our mother Maria Ines Ferreira, who departed on March 23, 2026 at the age of 92, at Grace Manor in Brampton.

Born in Cabouco, Lagoa, Portugal, Maria journeyed to Canada as a young woman to create a better life for her family, bringing with her the rich traditions and resilience of her heritage. Maria was the beloved mother of five children, Urania (Luis), Ermelinda, Gilbert (Fatima), Lucy (Belvin) and Joey. She will be greatly missed by her 7 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren and her great-greatgrandchild – each of whom held a special place in her heart.

Maria is preceded in death by her husband Gilberto Ferreira and by her brothers and sisters: Luis, Artemiza, Evangelina, Manuel, Armanda, Arthur and Leonel.

Maria made friends wherever she went and left lasting impressions through kindness and humour. Her love for family was unwavering even during the most difficult times. She found profound strength and peace through her relationship with God, whether in moments of joy or challenge, she remained steadfast and never wavered from her belief in the word of God.

Her legacy of love, hard work and commitment to family live on through our family and the many lives she touched along the way.

Our family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to the staff at Grace Manor for the compassionate care and dignity they provided to our mother during her time with them. Special gratitude to all the nurses and PSWs at Harmony House.

Visitation will be held at Ward Funeral Home, 52 Main Street South in Brampton, on March 29, 2026 from 3:00 - 7:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, March 30, 2026, at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 101 Malta Avenue, in Brampton at 9:30 a.m. Following the service, entombment will take place at Assumption Cemetery in Mississauga.

In lieu of flowers, the family would greatly appreciate donations made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.
