Maria De Gregorio (nee Maraschiello): It is with a heavy heart that the family of Maria De Gregorio announces the passing of their beloved matriarch. On July 3, 2023, our mother, grandmother and great grandmother transitioned peacefully at the retirement residence of Villa Colombo at the age of 99 years old, just 7 weeks shy of her 100th birthday. Born on August 21, 1923 in the small southern town of Acadia Italy, Maria was the first born of 5 children, Nina, Luigi, Giuseppe and Clorinda, to parents Colomba and Antonio Maraschiello. She is the wife of her beloved husband, Giuseppe De Gregorio, to whom she has been faithfully married for 82 years, before his death in March 2020.

She is fondly remembered by her family and friends as a devoted wife and a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, sister, sister-in-law and paisana whose home and table were always a welcoming place for anyone who was passing through. With cherished recollection, Maria will always be known for her unwavering faith, her warm and welcoming spirit, her unmatched culinary skills, her vibrant stories of the old country, coupled by her love of all family and friends. She is and will always remain a pillar of inspiration for all who knew her well with her simple and practical outlook on life. She spent countless celebrations with all members of her family whether it was to commemorate a milestone, to welcome the arrival of family from the old country, or simply just to talk over coffee and a slice of cake. She always made it a priority to create beautiful memories that can be shared by all those she cared deeply for.

She is survived by her daughter Colomba (Sam), and sons Domenic (Anna) and Antonio (Margaret). She will be greatly missed by her grandchildren Teresa (Michael), Mary Anne (Robert), Joseph (Amanda), and Elena, including her great grandchildren Luca, Bianca, Alessio, Olivia, Sebastian and Sofia.

She is also survived by her brother Giuseppe (late Maria and late nephew Antonio), her sister-in- law Emma (late brother Luigi) and youngest sister Clorinda (late sister Nina).

Family and friends will be received at Ward Funeral Home (4671 Hwy 7 Woodbridge) on Thursday July 6, 2023 from 2:00-4:00 pm and 6:00-8:00pm. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St Roch's Roman Catholic Church (2889 Islington Avenue) on Friday, July 7, 2023 at 10:00 am. Entombment to follow at Westminster Cemetery (5830 Bathurst St. North York).
