Maria Barat

Maria was the second youngest child of 6 children, the last to pass away. She came to Canada 55 years ago with her young daughter, Maria, to join her then husband. She loved to travel, to see different countries. She especially loved to travel with her friends and family. Maria also loved to dance. She was always one of the first to get up and dance at the many parties and gatherings amongst friends and family. She also never missed out on her granddaughter’s dance competitions and recitals. Never one to miss out on family events, Maria would also go to as many of her grandson’s hockey games as she could.

Maria was an amazing baker, and she loved to do it. It brought her so much joy to be able to bake everyone’s favorite's, especially her famous Bundt cake, which was most popular amongst her two great grandchildren. She would even send it with her daughter Maria when she would visit them in Halifax. As life progressed, so did the arthritis in her hands, which kept her from her baking. She couldn’t bake as often as she could, but she still managed to whip together a little something for all of us.

Maria engaged in needlepoint as an activity. Her beautiful pieces decorated the walls of her apartment and her daughter’s house. She also loved her word search books. Her family could not buy them fast enough for her! Trips to the dollar store would be nothing without grabbing a few books for her.

Maria also loved to listen to music and her radio was always on. She also loved to watch tv, especially Entertainment Tonight. She could fill you in on all the celebrity gossip and happenings.

Maria was deeply saddened by the loss of her two good friends this year. She always tried her best to stay in touch with friends and family.

Maria loved life and she loved her family. She will be greatly missed.
