Maria Alongi (née Bevacqua) passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her loving family, on May 17, 2026, in her 93rd year.
Born on June 6, 1933, in Cerda, Provincia di Palermo, Italy, Maria lived a life rooted in love, devotion to family, strength, and generosity. She was the beloved wife of Rosario Alongi, with whom she built a beautiful family and life filled with love.
Maria was a devoted mother to Antonietta (Domenico Sbergio), Francesca (Michele Peluso), and Margherita (Gary Maxwell). She was a proud and loving Nonna to Mattia (Robertino), Stefano (Kelsey), Adele, Rosario (Jenna), Francesco, Joseph, Daniel (Megan), and Isabella (Kyle).
She will be deeply missed as “Big Nonna” by her cherished great-grandchildren: Vienna, Victoria, Massimo, Domenico, Alessandro, Ella, and Luca, as well as her beloved pets, Leo and Max.
She will always be remembered by her beloved nieces and nephews and their families—Frances, Filipina, Vince, Antonietta, Silvana, and Tony — along with many dear family members here and in Italy who have always been close to her heart throughout her life.
Maria was predeceased by her loving parents, Marco and Francesca, her sisters Antonina, Angelina, and Carmelina, and by her beloved nieces and nephews Salvina, Marco, Pino, and Anna Maria, along with many dear family members in Italy.
Maria loved beyond measure and was loved beyond measure in return. Her warmth, strength, faith, and unwavering love for her family will remain with all who knew her. She leaves behind a legacy of deep family bonds, resilience, tradition, and unconditional love.
She will be profoundly missed and forever remembered.
If desired, flowers or donations made to CAMH, CNIB or the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be greatly appreciated.
