Margit Babcock

It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce that Margit Babcock passed away peacefully at Sunnybrook Hospital on Friday January 26th, 2024 at the age of 79.

Margit will be missed by her beloved husband, Clyde, of 58 years; her dear sons, Greg and David; her daughter-in-laws, Phyllis and Sandra; her three grandsons, Ryan, Jaden and Alexander; her sister-in-law and best friend, Betty; her brother-in-law, Gord; her nephew, Adam, and her dear sister, Maria.  Also, she will leave behind her step-brothers, Michael and Alexander; her step-sister, Rebecca, and her step-mother, Helen.

Margit was born in Hungary on July 2, 1944.  She emigrated to Canada with her parents after the War.  Margit experienced a lot of transitions and changes growing up.  Her parents had to work on a sugar beets farm in Calgary.  Her mother died of cancer shortly afterwards.  Her father, Leslie, moved Margit and himself to Ontario where they settled in Hamilton and later on Toronto. Margit adored her father who later remarried. Later on, in Toronto, Margit met her husband, Clyde, and together they built a full and happy life.

Margit loved Art, literature, fashion, music, and film.  She always brought her artistic sensibility to her everyday living.  She created a beautiful home and backyard oasis where she loved hosting family gatherings and celebrations.  She was an incredible gourmet cook.  Margit loved being a Nana to her three grandsons, having them over for sleepovers, taking them to the ROM and AGO and filling their hearts up with love.

Margit loved others with warmth, kindness and compassion.  She was an incredible listener and gave the best hugs.  She touched the lives of many people and made a real difference.  She will be missed tremendously.
