Margaret Gervais Chiasson

December 10, 1934-February 23, 2026

It is with a heavy heart and deep love that we announce the passing of Margaret Gervais Chiasson (née Young) on February 23, 2026. Beloved wife and life-long companion of Daniel Chiasson for 70 years. Margaret’s life was centered around her family. From the moment she became a mother, her world revolved around her boys, Steve (Rehana) and Trevor (Andrea). Margaret was an extremely proud grandmother to Shane (predeceased 2020), André (Emma), Ben (Olivia), Brett (Rachel), Julia and Luc, and was looking forward to becoming a great-grandmother in May. Margaret will be greatly missed by her extended family, Buddy (Pat), Marie-Jeanette, Hilda (David), Emile (Suzette), Madeleine (Adolphe), and her many nieces and nephews.

Margaret’s love was constant, protective, and unwavering, the kind of love that shaped generations. She created a home that was warm, welcoming, and kept to the highest standard. We will always smile at the memory of her cleaning with vinegar, ensuring everything sparkled just the way she liked it. Her home was a place of comfort, tradition, and togetherness, where family and friends were always welcome–what she fondly referred to as her “halfway house.”

Margaret embraced her role as a mother and grandmother with deep pride and unwavering support. She never missed a sporting event, musical production, dance recital, or baseball game. Whether rain, snow, or long drives, she was always there cheering from the sidelines. Margaret, fondly known as “Mother Hen,” was known to faithfully stay up at night until her boys returned home, often frustrated by Dan’s ability to sleep peacefully beside her. There were no bounds to her love and devotion.

Margaret took great pride in her career, spending ten years working at the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce, where she met her husband. Margaret was passionate about passing on her love of banking to her grandchildren, regularly teaching them about the benefits of a Dividend Income Fund. Later in her career, Margaret took on the world of real-estate, where she quickly flourished and became one of the top realtors.

Margaret will be fondly remembered for her love of coconut cream pie and macaroons, her incredible sense of humour and witty charm, and her uncanny ability to make sweets and snacks magically disappear, while simultaneously insisting she wasn’t hungry. It is for all of these reasons, and for the countless beautiful memories she created, that her family will cherish her forever.

Cremation has taken place. Family and friends are welcome for a mass followed by a celebration of life in the spring. In memory of Margaret and in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society or the Catholic Women’s League. Thank you to the team at Burton Manor for their kindness and care for Margaret over the past 3.5 years. In case she didn’t say it enough, she thought you were all so beautiful.

“Que sera, sera. Whatever will be will be, the future’s not ours to see. Que sera, sera.”
