It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Mara Ramnjanc, who died peacefully on January 4, 2026, at the age of 86. Born on April 26, 1939, in Pecenjevce, Serbia, Mara lived a life defined by devotion to her family, hard work, warmth, and generosity.
Mara was born to Tihomir and Branislava Ristic and spent her early years in Serbia before bravely beginning a new chapter in her life. In May 1976, she immigrated to Toronto, Canada, where she built a full and rewarding life. She was deeply proud of her family and her ability to create a loving home in a new country.
Mara was the devoted wife of Petar Ramnjanc and a proud, loving mother to her two children, Dusan and Dusanka, who were the center of her world. She was also a cherished mother-in-law to Vicki, Dusan’s wife. Her guidance, sacrifices, and unconditional love shaped the lives of her family and will continue to guide them always.
A hardworking and determined woman, Mara worked at the Royal York Hotel and also contributed tirelessly to the family business, all while raising her children and caring for her home. She found joy in the simple but meaningful things in life — cooking traditional meals, telling stories, and welcoming family and friends into her home. Her house was always open, filled with laughter, warmth, and the comforting feeling of belonging.
Fun-loving and warm-hearted, Mara had a natural way of bringing people together. Her kindness, generosity, and quiet strength left a lasting impression on everyone who knew her.
Mara will be deeply missed by her husband, children, daughter-in-law, extended family, and all who had the privilege of knowing her. Though her loss is profoundly felt, her love, legacy, and memories will live on in the hearts of those she leaves behind.
May Mara Ramnjanc rest in eternal peace.
