Manuel Pavao Melo

In Loving Memory of Manuel Pavão Melo
October 4, 1941 – June 9, 2026

Manuel passed away peacefully on June 9, 2026, leaving a legacy of gentleness and love. He was the devoted husband of Maria Rosario with whom he shared 58 beautiful years of marriage and a lifetime of wonderful memories. He was the loving father of Victor Manuel (Maria Fatima) and the late Ana Paula; and proud grandfather of Nicholas and Vanessa (Anastasio). He is survived by his two brothers, Miguel (Helena) and Henrique (Rosa), and a large, loving extended family of nieces and nephews.

A talented musician, he proudly played the clarinet in the band for 40 years and was an avid fan of soccer and hockey. These sports brought immense joy to his life, especially through the lively matches and shared moments he cheered on alongside his son, Victor Manuel, and his grandson, Nicholas. His nurturing spirit was beautifully seen in his love for animals, especially his beloved toy poodle, Rocky, whom he loved very much. Alongside his devotion to Rocky, he held a special connection with his wife, son, and grandson through the pet birds they tenderly raised together as a family.

He was blessed with a family that cherished him deeply. He shared an exceptionally close, meaningful bond with his daughter-in-law, Maria Fatima, whose love and warmth brought immense joy and comfort to his life, making her a true daughter to him in every way. Above all, he absolutely loved being a grandfather, cherishing every moment spent with his grandchildren, Nicholas and Vanessa. He also shared a warm bond with his grandson-in-law, Anastasio. To the family's complete surprise, Avô would tap into a secret reservoir of English they didn't know he had just to chat with Anastasio about soccer.

On the evening of his passing, Venus and Jupiter aligned in a rare, peaceful pairing in the night sky—a celestial event often called a cosmic kiss. The following day, as his family made funeral arrangements, exactly seven white and grey feathers were found standing upright in the grass outside. For his loved ones, this beautiful sign brought perfect comfort, reminding them that when feathers appear, angels are near. It was a celestial and earthly assurance that his work is done, he is flying free and he has been safely reunited in eternity with his precious daughter, Ana Paula, his late parents, his late brothers and sisters, his nieces who passed before him, and his “companheiro” Rocky.

He will be missed deeply, loved always, and remembered every time we look to the sky, hear a clarinet play, or hear a bird sing.
