Lynda Atkinson (née Herbert)

With love and deep sorrow, we announce the passing of Lynda Atkinson (née Herbert) on May 17, 2025, at the age of 78. She passed away peacefully in her sleep at Brampton Civic Hospital, surrounded by the love of her family.

Born in Toronto on December 17, 1946, Lynda lived a life shaped by quiet strength, deep faith, and a sustained sense of humour and wit. She loved her family fiercely and was never afraid to speak her mind — often with a dry remark and just enough mischief to make you smile (and perhaps wonder if you needed a drink-box).

She was a devoted mother to Elizabeth Schut (Lee) and David Atkinson (Jen), and a proud “Ga Ga” to Leanne, Jonathan, Matthew, and Emily — each of whom carries a piece of her warmth, humour, and spirit. Her nieces and nephews knew her as a loving and steady presence, always ready with encouragement and the occasional, perfectly timed quip.

Lynda is survived by her sister Phyllis Slessor (Simon), with whom she shared a close and enduring bond. She is predeceased by her beloved siblings Fred Herbert (2025) and Connie Herbert (1952), and we take comfort in their joyful reunion.

Lynda’s life was grounded in her faith and love for the Lord, which sustained her through both joyful and difficult seasons. She met life with resilience, compassion, and a quiet grace that touched everyone who knew her.

Visitation will be held at Ward Funeral Home, 52 Main St South, Brampton on Wednesday, May 21, at 10:00 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Lynda’s memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Canadian Cancer Society.
