RHIJNSBURGER, Lina, 'Liny' or “Lynn” (nee Kuntz) – After a short illness, the Lord took Lina home on Tuesday, August 12, 2025. Born in Den Haag, The Netherlands, on May 18, 1928, Lina was the fourth of seven children born to George Gerardus Kuntz and Lientje Kleiman.
Lina and her family lived during a very hard time in the occupied Netherlands during World War II where, from an early age, she was often found caring for others. Along with her love for children, her dream was to become a paediatric nurse and she realized that dream. She trained at the Julianna Children’s Hospital in Den Haag followed by the Zuid Wall Hospital and after 4 years achieved the White Cross Diploma. In June 1953, she joined her brothers George and Hank in Toronto to begin a new life. She deeply loved her work as a paediatric nurse at St. Joseph’s in Toronto which she reluctantly paused, but always fondly remembered, when John was born to her and husband Cor in 1956.
Lina embraced her role as wife and mother raising six children with Cor. A resourceful parent, she was always offering good books, coming up with new art or craft projects and taking her children to a range of adventures in and out of town. A devoted Christian, she became an active, committed participant in her neighbourhood, at her children’s schools and in her church community. Lina was known by many for her humility, her deep care for others and always lending a helping hand and checking in on people. She never forgot her family member’s birthdays and was always very involved and interested in each of their lives.
Lina is predeceased by her husband, Corstiaan Jacob Rhijnsburger (August 2020), her parents, George Gerardus Kuntz and Lientje Kleiman, and her
siblings Coly Kroeze, Marian Franz, George Koonce, Gerda Boerstra, and Ans Kuntz. She is survived by her brother Hank Kuntz.
Lina will be greatly missed by her children John (Cynthia), Marty (Van), Gary (Fran), Linda (Andy), Jacqueline and Cory, and her grandchildren Tony, Brooke, Eric, Dane, Hailey, Colin, Simon, Dana, Ben and Erika.
We are deeply grateful to her entire community including everyone at Holland Christian Homes where she was happy, loved and well cared for over the past 15 years. We greatly appreciate the many caregivers at Brampton Civic Hospital since early July and to all those who visited her.
Family and friends will be received at the Ward Funeral Home, Brampton Chapel', 52 Main Street South (Hwy. 10), in Brampton on Friday, August 15 from 2 – 4pm and 7-8 p.m. A service of remembrance will be held at Heritage Hall, Holland Christian Homes, 7900 McLaughlin Road South, Brampton, on Saturday, August 16, 2025 at 2:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Lifewater Canada or a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
